4 Ways Our Partnerships Work

A major part of the Global Dietary Database project is creating a free, public data resource to help people alleviate and solve key nutrition problems around the world. But creating this resource is only a portion of our work – we also have to make sure it gets in the hands of the people who need it. To maximize the time spent creating GDD, and to minimize roadblocks in disseminating it worldwide, we rely on synergistic partnerships with global organizations, from disciplines ranging from public health and nutrition to environmental, economic, and sustainability sectors, among others. Here are a few key ways that we leverage our joint efforts.

1. Shared Methods and Analyses

By sharing data and methods with our partners, we can both avoid duplication of effort and unnecessary use of valuable resources and establish synergies to maximize the expertise of each organization. It’s for this reason that we work with partners to collaborate in data collection and database expansion, share modeling methods and resources, and have joint dissemination efforts.

2. Publishing Reports

Select GDD strategic partners produce reports summarizing the status of major global topics like public health and nutrition. We work with these partners to ensure their reports utilize the most comprehensive and up-to-date data.

3. Field Work

GDD is also a critical resource for agencies working in the field. Many of these organizations function using limited resources and cannot afford to be inefficient in allocating them. GDD data helps them to identify priorities and target high-impact gaps.

4. Connecting with Governments

Our partners also help connect governments with GDD data. This is particularly impactful for countries in which survey data is limited or perhaps not nationally-representative; our modeled estimates help to make the most of the data in a country, no matter how limited, and expand upon them through modeling methods. The result is a more comprehensive dataset that governments can use to better inform policies and programs. Our partners play a critical role in getting these improved data into the hands of people who can make actionable policies.
